According to Hollywood sound man Wallace Bearden, Hedy could speak nine languages fluently. Besides German, the languages she learned in order were Hebrew, Yiddish, Latin, Italian, Hungarian(tutored by Eva Gabor), French(tutored by Charles Boyer), Dutch and English. Hebrew and Yiddish come from Hedy being Orthodox Jewish. According to Wallace Bearden, when asked about Latin, Hedy said: «I wanted to find a way to give back to my Roman Catholic-dominated country, and the way to do it was learn Latin for them (after Vatican City, Italy and Ireland, per-capita, Austria is the largest Roman Catholic-dominated country).
She was the inspiration for the DC Comics Anti-hero and love interest of Batman, Catwoman.

Ayer fue el aniversario de Hedy Lamarr (1914-2000), cuya faceta más conocida fue la de actriz en películas como Sansón y Dalila (1949), Éxtasis (1933) o Argel (1938). Pero además de haberse ganado el sobrenombre de la mujer más hermosa de la historia del cine esta austríaca era también ingeniera de telecomunicaciones e inventora.
Junto con George Antheil patentó lo que llamaba un «sistema de comunicaciones secreto» que básicamente consistía en un equipo emisor de radio que, sincronizado con otro receptor igual, podía ir «saltando de frecuencia» si ambos estaban sincronizados. De este modo se evitaba que el enemigo –era la época de la Segunda Guerra Mundial– pudiera recibir las señales de forma continua.
Al invento le faltaba todavía un hervor, que llegó con otros avances tecnológicos, pero terminaría usándose fielmente años después en sistemas militares; la primera vez fue en 1962, durante la crisis de los misiles de Cuba, tal y como cuentan en la Wikipedia.
Ya en los 80 la idea de Lamarr y Antheil se empleó también en la incipiente telefonía móvil, que necesitaba de un sistema para que los distintos terminales no se interfirieran al usar los mismos canales al mismo tiempo – algo algo que también le sucede a tecnologías más modernas como el wifi o los aparatos bluetooth. De modo que en cada casa tenemos hoy en día teléfonos y equipos inalámbricos basados en aquella idea de utilizar varios canales que van cambiando de forma pseudoaleatoria.
Además de esto la comunidad internacional decidió que el 9 de noviembre se celebrara cada año el día del inventor, precisamente en honor a Lamarr.
